GageList’s Uncertainty Budget helps you quantify the total uncertainty of your measurements by combining all relevant contributors of variation into a single, comprehensive overview. This is particularly useful when multiple MSA studies have been conducted on the same part/parts. The Uncertainty Budget allows you to quickly see which sources of uncertainty are most significant. Additionally, it provides concrete statistical values that aid in evaluating the effectiveness of your measurements, including combined uncertainty and expanded uncertainty.
Before Creating a Budget
There are two types of studies: type A and type B. GageList defines type A studies as studies that have been conducted using our MSA services. Type B studies are studies completed using other methods, which must be manually entered in while creating the budget.
To ensure the process of building a budget goes smoothly, we recommend completing and running (or re-running) each study before creating a new budget.
Creating the Budget
- Add a new uncertainty budget by navigating to the Uncertainty link under MSA on the left sidebar of GageList.
- Fill in budget-wide information, including relevant dates, a title, units of measure, and the k coverage factor.
Adding a GageList Study (Type A)
To add or view studies, see MSA Overview.
- Add studies completed through GageList by selecting the button labelled ADD CONTRIBUTOR.
- Select a completed study from the list. If your desired study is not available, it likely needs to be run/re-run.
- Select which components of the study should be included. Most studies have one, while R&R studies have two (repeatability and reproducibility).
- Choose a probability distribution and sensitivity coefficient based on the shape of the data and the type of measurement being analyzed in the study.
- Click the button labelled ADD to add the study to the budget.
Adding a Manual Study (Type B)
- Select the button labelled ADD MANUAL CONTRIBUTOR.
- Fill in necessary information in the popup window.
- Click the button labelled ADD to add the study to the budget.
Performing the Calculation
- Press the Save button in the top right of the page to save your budget.
- Press the CALCULATE button below the input table to execute the calculations and generate the report.
A report will be generated and displayed below the input table under the RESULTS header. The report can also be downloaded by selecting the PDF Report button.
